Cyclist × Leader × Technician × Coach
Brenna has always had a propensity for guiding what groups of people can do together, in earnest cohesion, better than they can do all by themselves. And she likes to think that this same inclination translates quite well to the endurance athlete/coach rapport.

This drive manifested at a young age through group music and club leadership, then translated to team sports on the rugby field in high school and college; to group work in a small, collaborative music department in college; and finally translated to bikes post-college.
A bike commuter from childhood onward, she accidentally got a job in a bike shop in 2008 after asking too many questions about how to build up her first road bike, and quickly learned that successful small business retail is yet another team sport.
In 2013 and in her mid-twenties, she joined her first cycling team and was hooked after learning that road racing worked best when the whole team committed to working “the plan,” and that the craftiest collaborative team could win--not always the strongest individuals in the field.
Her racing career has functioned hand-in-hand with her job at Sellwood Cycle Repair, and now, too, as a cycling coach. An all-rounder and multi-discipline rider, she's ridden for multiple UCI Continental professional women's road teams (LA Sweat, DNA Pro Cycling, InstaFund Racing), and raced much of the North American road, crit and cyclocross calendars and select gravel events during a nascent time in women's sport, returning home for the work week to fix bikes and help all kinds of people enjoy them. Becoming a cycling coach who could work with riders and help them envision & manifest their dreams was an early ambition, a natural progression, and a role she handles with great respect and appreciation.
Her unique skillset has translated to managing Sellwood's women's cyclocross program, Team S&M CX (2016-present), and working as a mechanic and coach for USA Cycling's cyclocross National Team at many World Cups and World Championships (2019-present).
She understands that for nearly every athlete, balance between their sport and everyday existence is a constant and sometimes messy work in progress, and that therein lies the joy, the frustration, and the holistic process.
Brenna approaches the coach/athlete relationship with energy, compassion, and commitment.
The recipe for shaping a happy, successful rider isn't uniform, but communication, accountability, and evaluation are all consistent ingredients, and they flow both ways between an athlete and coach. That, and protecting the fun in riding a bike.
She passionately believes athletic identity & the empowerment it carries can be nurtured at any point in life, and is committed to sharing the physiological processes, technical aspects, and internal reflection necessary to grow as a rider.
